Deep Roots in New York

Hyman Smith Coffee is a division of Smith Housewares and Restaurant Supply and is one of the oldest businesses in Syracuse, New York. In fact, our family-owned-and-operated and locally owned business has been in the same location since 1946 and has been serving Syracuse and customers nationwide for more than 120 years.

A Family Affair

Our owner, John Kuppermann, inherited this business from his grandmother and has worked for his family's business ever since. Having been in the industry since 12 years of age, John has learned a lot about business and is passionate about sharing his enthusiasm about well-crafted coffee and has over 30 years of experience with individuals, restaurants, and commercial buyers.


Mission Statement

This is a 122-year old sixth generation family business located in an 1840s Erie Canal building in the center of downtown Syracuse. Smith's has grown from its humble immigrant roots into a versatile company with many departments. From the days when owner John's great-great-grandfather and great-grandfather operated a storefront from their home on Grape Street, Smith's continues to maintain the finest display showroom and best-stocked warehouse in Upstate New York. There are approximately 18,000 items in inventory contained within two floors of public showrooms and six floors of warehouse.

Policies

Return Policy

Items must be returned within 15 days of purchase, accompanied with sales receipt. Items must be unused and in the original packaging.

No returns of customer special orders. Restocking fees and penalties might apply.

No cash refunds on store credits, gift certificates, or gift receipts.

Shipping Policy

Most purchases are shipped from our store via USPS or FedEx to arrive within 2-5 business days from receipt of your order. We will notify you via e-mail of any delays. Items ordered together do not always arrive in the same box. For items not currently in stock, we will notify you of approximate delivery time.

All cartons should be opened and examined for damage immediately upon receipt. Do not sign for or accept any damaged shipments. If your order is damaged, have the shipper return it to Smiths and a replacement will be sent.

Privacy Policy

When you place an order with us, we request your name, billing address, shipping address, credit card number and expiration date, and email address. We consider this information to be private, and we keep this information on a secure server to protect it from outside parties. We use the information only for the limited purposes of processing your orders, administering our site, notifying you of products or special offers that may be of interest to you (only if you select to be included on out mailing list).
